Unfortunately, due to technical problems with the S950, my new boat Bluewing is now being returned to the manufacturer. Sadly this means we are unable to complete the sail round Ireland this year as planned.
This has obviously been a big disappointment for a number of people. I would however, like to thank the following for their support planning and helping resolve issues with the boat over the past few months; Martin Hill, GJW Insurance, Graham and the team at Chichester Marina, Jemima and Steve at S Yachts and Alyson Griffin; for the support with the web site...... and my wife Clare; for putting up with constant uncertainty and changing plans.
With luck, maybe we can attempt an interesting and challenging sail in aid of charity next summer.
Another very cold but bright day as I introduced D'Arcy to the
boat for the first time. His first time on a yacht I think. But he was very
impressive for a yachting virgin. We spent about 2 hours sailing around
Itchenor in light winds and sunshine. D'Arcy quickly got to grips with some
of the jargon and techniques such as how to operate the engine, steer a
course, tie up on a pontoon and set sails.
Today was freezing cold as I sailed the new boat (now
named Blue Wing) from Southampton, where it had been exhibited at the
Southampton Boatshow, to Chichester. Nic Fieldhouse, a friend of mine helped
me sail her back. It was a F5+ in parts and she sailed really well. Took
about 4 and a half hours.
Today I took possession of a new boat for the trip next
year. It's a brand new 31Ft 'S Yacht' and is the first production boat of
its type. It has a lifting keel, so the draft can vary from 6Ft to just 2Ft.
Quite handy around Chichester. Another reason for chosing this boat is the
quality of fittings - lots of stainless steel fittings. And solid wood
fixtures below decks. Plus I always fancied a boat with a dark blue hull.
