Unfortunately, due to technical problems with the S950, my new boat Bluewing is now being returned to the manufacturer. Sadly this means we are unable to complete the sail round Ireland this year as planned.
This has obviously been a big disappointment for a number of people. I would however, like to thank the following for their support planning and helping resolve issues with the boat over the past few months; Martin Hill, GJW Insurance, Graham and the team at Chichester Marina, Jemima and Steve at S Yachts and Alyson Griffin; for the support with the web site...... and my wife Clare; for putting up with constant uncertainty and changing plans.
With luck, maybe we can attempt an interesting and challenging sail in aid of charity next summer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
During the summer of 2011, Malcolm Palmer and D'Arcy Myers will team together to take on a charity sail event circumnavigating Ireland.
This joint-venture will aim to raise funds and awareness for Wessex Heartbeat, a regional charity which provides the best possible care and support for people living with heart conditions and their loved ones. D'Arcy is CEO of Wessex Heartbeat.
The trip is expected to take up to 6 weeks sailing time from Chichester in West Sussex, along the south coast, round Lands End and up to Padstow. Then from Padstow over to Wales and then across to Ireland. The course round Ireland will depend on the weather conditions at the time.
D'Arcy has no previous sailing experience and will be spending his weekends preparing for the event before setting off in June or July.
Malcolm has 14 years sailing experience and has previously sailed solo around the UK.
However, by teaming up together to safely navigate round the obstacles of the UK and Irish coastline, both D'Arcy and Malcolm are embarking on a testing challenge and learning opportunity whereby quick decison-making, long periods together and handling the discomfort of the sea should make for a very interesting story.
Just to add further interest, the vessel chosen for the sail is a 31Ft S-Yacht called 'Blue Wing'. This is the first production yacht of its type in the world. A highly innovative lifting-keel yacht manufactured in 2010 by J&MW Yachts. See their website for details.

Charity Sail - During the summer of 2007 I sailed
around the UK to raise money for three worthy charities; RNLI, Outward Bound and William's Fund, a children's cancer research project.
I started from Chichester in West Sussex in June 2007 and
travelled clockwise, taking approximately 3 months to complete.
My boat was a Legend 356, called Pernera Princess. She coul accommodate 7 adults but my plan wasto sail alone for many legs but individuals to join me on others.
Why do this? Well, apart from raising money for charities, I had always wanted
to take some time out for a longer sea trip and the UK from sea has a certain
fascination. My only reservation was leaving my young family who are used to me
being at home most days. So I took a few days out over the 3 months
to meet up with them.

"Fund Raise Update.........As 2007 comes to an end the total raised for charity stands at a magnificant £2,239.05! This includes tax bonuses. The Charitysail Justgiving pages have now closed to new donations, so all that is left is to say a very BIG THANK YOU to everyone who supported and gave generously."
